'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues battle with Pep's side.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he recalls the nail-biting closing stages of Swansea's remarkable turnaround win against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. That match ended with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses following the post-goal scrum.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a long-range effort from 25 yards, and the defender quickly hammered in the deflection before sprinting toward the crowd to mark the goal, with fans mobbing the players.

Stunning Reversal

This completed an extraordinary turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 midway through the final 45 minutes. Amid the delirium, there was some collateral damage. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're people, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win secured a fourth-round fixture at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. The athletic midfielder had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's volley from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. It feels criminal that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for attempting the shot from that far out," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right wing-back after they changed formation. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the player was among the City players who paid tribute to the way Orient approached the match.

Guardiola's System

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," Galbraith says. "It appears that they never miss a pass and they understand how to dictate and slow down a game. You can think you're doing well and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass past your midfield without you even spotting it. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and focus just to remain competitive."

New Chapter

Swansea sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a popular figure across two seasons at his former club and has rapidly done the same in south Wales. At his previous team he joined forces once more with his former manager, who earlier gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in senior football on loan at his loan club from United. Then came a temporary move at League Two Salford City, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was likely a somewhat inexperienced going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is completely distinct. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without real physicality. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing men's games you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that growth for club and country, shining for his national side, who remain in contention for the global tournament next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches fixtures against a football powerhouse. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "little Iniesta or Xavi" given how he controls possession and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

It has been an incredible journey for the kid from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his parent, his father, also a midfielder, play for a local club.

Red Devils Debut

The player's sole appearance for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a Europa League trip to Astana, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to temperatures of -15C. "This represented a extended travel and it was freezing," he comments, chuckling. "The week before, myself and quite a few of the young lads practiced as a group, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Departing Old Trafford

How hard was it to leave United, the club he transferred from aged 16? "It was quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I wouldn't break through at first-team level. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I believed I required a fresh start, drop down the leagues and play first-team games. Now I'm gradually working my way back up."

Welsh Adaptation

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a small coach driven by team personnel, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, Ronald, Malick Yalcouyé – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the teammates but I'm planning to be the following person out of the minibus and behind the wheel. The Portuguese player likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would mix with fans on public transport after commuting at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
