19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial championship for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has endured a torrid period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in especial - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and finally parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.
Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is his initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since March of 2023.
Victory also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my child her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.
But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, striving to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an improved service.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, securing four of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his first tour championship, took control to force a final set.
He rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
